                 WONECUE

                            Digital Signal Processor Decoder

For CBS, NBC, MBS, CNN, Westwood One Radio Networks

Designed and built exclusively for Westwood One

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The WONECUE universal digital decoder was developed as the answer to total radio station automation control and alert personnel.

Using advanced DSP processing, WONECUE decodes all network cueing tones used by the CBS Radio Network "NetAlert", Mutual Broadcasting System "Mutualert", NBC Radio Networks "Hotline", CNN Radio "25/35 and DTMF", Westwood Talk and Entertainment , Westwood Sports and special programming.

WONECUE indexes all the above networks into thirteen different controlled relay pulses that can operate peripheral station equipment. WONECUE also offers a visual relay selector of the status of the thirteen relay outputs. In addition, WONECUE provides a data stream to provide remote indication and Alarm status for bulletin and special events. The optional RM1 Remote unit plugs directly into the WONECUE and provides the remote location with complete monitoring and network indications.

3.0 Installation:

WONECUE should be installed in a dry, ventilated location. Always use the wall mounted power supply provided with the DSP. Note that the Negative pin of the power supply is the middle connector of "J1".

WONECUE can be directly connected to the StarGuide Satellite receivers or broadcast lines. The transformer input is balanced and floating and will bridge any circuit with an impedance of 600 ohms or less. The audio input should be between -5 db to +8 db. If your audio line meets these requirements, connect directly to the audio connector. Pins 2 and 3 are balanced audio input with Pin 1 as ground.

Thirteen different integral relays are used to control peripheral station automation and alarm functions. Relay contacts are single pole, normally open and provide a closure of approximately 330 ms. Contacts are rated at 1.0 A @ 30 Volts. Suppression circuits should be provided as needed.

Each relay’s contacts are isolated from all other circuitry and appears on the DB37 connector on the rear of WONECUE and listed in Table #1.

4.0 Operation:

WONECUE is designed to detect all network cue tones and will "index" these tones into one of thirteen categories. A complete listing is listed in Section 2 of this manual.

When the digital signal processor receives a valid cue signal, the indexed relay output is pulsed. At the same time, the corresponding front panel relay status LEDs provide a visual indication of detection. Please note that Status Relay #9 is a Red LED for special announcement and all other Relay Status LEDs are Yellow.

The "Power" Green LED should be illuminated at all times.

Pin 19 of the DB39F Connector on the rear of WONECUE is provided for remote accessories. The RM1 Remote Readout/Alarm unit will provide LCD display for all received cue tones and network. In addition, an audible alarm will sound at the unit during special "Bulletin" alerts. The RM1 is recommended for studio-control room and newsroom applications.

5.0 Adjustments:

WONECUE is an advanced Digital Signal Processor and should require no adjustments, except proper audio level input. There are no serviceable parts in WONECUE and you should contact Westwood One Technical Operations for any questions.
